2018/19 season gets underway after false starty

Although previously planned to open on September 29th, the decision was made to delay the glacier access after the Grande Motte was deemed not to be in a skiable condition after a particularly hot and dry summer.

The Société des Téléphériques de la Grande Motte, the Régie des Pistes and the Mairie de Tignes took the decision to open in October as recent snowfall and the work of the piste teams lead to massive improvements on the glacier. Partial openings should now begin from October 17th, with more details announced about times and lifts on October 15th. This will be a big relief to the ski teams that were planning to use the early opening for final preparations ahead of the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Solden, Austria, on October 27th and 28th.
