3. Tignes 1800 (Tignes Les Boisses)

Location
Tignes

ignes 1800 combines a relaxed village feel with modern facilities and easy access to the slopes. Set just above the dam, it offers good value accommodation, family-friendly appeal and a quieter atmosphere than the busier parts of the resort. It’s a great choice if you want to enjoy everything Tignes has to offer while staying somewhere calm and scenic.

Tignes Le Boisses, now more often called Tignes 1800, is a charming village set at 1,800 metres just above the famous Tignes dam. Once the quietest corner of the resort, it has been transformed in recent years thanks to major redevelopment, including the creation of a large eco-resort completed in 2014. Despite these changes, it still retains a relaxed atmosphere away from the busier centres of Tignes, making it a great choice if you prefer a calmer base for your holiday.

Being the first village you reach when you cross the dam, Tignes 1800 is easy to get to and offers a good mix of modern accommodation and traditional Alpine charm. Prices here are often a little lower than in the higher villages, which makes it popular with families and anyone looking for better value without compromising on access to the slopes. In winter, you can enjoy all the skiing Tignes is famous for, while in summer, it’s a peaceful spot from which to explore the mountains, go hiking or simply soak up the scenery.

If you’re after a quieter setting with all the benefits of the wider resort close at hand, Tignes 1800 is a brilliant place to stay.

It’s the kind of place where you can truly unwind, enjoy good food and take in the mountain scenery. If you value charm and tranquillity over nightlife, this is the perfect corner of Tignes for your holiday.

Tignes Les Brévières is the most traditional and picturesque of the Tignes villages, set at 1,550 metres at the foot of the valley beside the river. With its pretty stone farmhouses, old chalets and cosy bistros, it feels like a true Alpine village and offers a very different atmosphere to the modern centres higher up the mountain. Accommodation is mostly made up of chalets, boutique hotels and a few self-catering apartments, all with plenty of Savoyard character.

It’s a great choice if you’re looking for somewhere quieter and more authentic, with a laid back après ski scene and some excellent restaurants to enjoy after a day on the slopes. The gondola links you into the wider ski area with ease, but do keep in mind that there are no shuttle buses, so once the lifts close, you’ll be staying in this peaceful spot.
