Snow report 5 December 2024
It’s beginning to look and feel a lot like winter out here in Tignes. Snow capped peaks once again dominate our winter landscape and it’s really cold. We're at the start of a new ski season now, who’s excited? We are excited to bring you an up to date snow report every week throughout the season.
Tignes opened on 23 November and we’ve been enjoying fabulous early season skiing on quiet and mainly sunny slopes. Worth noting is that the liaison between Tignes and Val d'Isere is now open, since yesterday.
Tonight through to Sunday we are expecting a good snowfall of around 26cm, the heaviest to be on Saturday afternoon. The early part of this week was extremely cold and although it has warmed up a little for Thursday and Friday, we will see the temperature plummet by Friday night getting down to -11°C by Saturday night.
The freezing level earlier this week was down to around 1000m and is hovering around 1500 - 2000m for the end of the week. This will drop down to around 850m at the weekend, with fresh north westerly winds on Saturday getting lighter into Sunday.
Although the snow coverage is looking good, be aware that as this is early season and the off-piste areas will not have been skied much yet, so not well compacted and there is likely to be thin coverage in many places.
The Christmas festive atmosphere is beginning to build in resort. It’s exciting to see the resort all white again, the mountains adorned with skiers and restaurants and bars open and buzzing once again.
